New Delhi, India – India has recorded record-high electricity consumption as severe heat waves sweep across a wide range of states. This situation has placed the power grid under unprecedented strain and raised concerns about the supply’s ability to meet the surging demand.

Official reports indicate that the high temperatures have driven millions of citizens to rely heavily on air conditioning, particularly in major cities. This has led to a significant surge in electricity loads during peak hours.

Authorities are facing increasing challenges in managing this surge in demand, given the strain on fuel supplies used for electricity generation. Additionally, some power plants require maintenance. This increases the likelihood of power outages in certain areas if the heatwave continues at the same pace.

Energy experts have pointed out that this crisis exposes the vulnerability of some infrastructure to extreme climate change. They also stressed the need to accelerate investment in renewable energy sources and improve grid efficiency to meet the growing demand.

The Indian government is also taking urgent measures, including boosting coal and gas supplies to power plants. Emergency plans are being activated to ensure grid stability and minimize the impact of any potential shortages on vital sectors.

These developments come at a time when many countries are facing similar heat waves, highlighting the global challenges related to energy security and climate change, and the need for sustainable solutions. These solutions must ensure stable supplies under extreme weather conditions.
