Manama, Bahrain – A Bahraini court sentenced 25 defendants in separate cases to prison after convicting them of supporting Iranian attacks on the country.
They were also convicted of spreading false news and rumors aimed at undermining public order,
amid ongoing security tensions in the kingdom.
Details of court rulings
According to the Bahrain News Agency, the High Criminal Court sentenced 24 defendants
to prison terms ranging from five to ten years, with some also receiving fines.
One defendant was sentenced to one year in prison and fined,
and the court ordered the confiscation of items seized in connection with the cases.
The charges against the defendants included supporting and endorsing Iranian attacks,
obtaining and disseminating prohibited vital data,
photographing restricted areas, and spreading false news on social media,
in what authorities described as attempts to undermine security and stability.
Background of the investigations
The Public Prosecution had received reports from the Cybercrime Directorate
regarding accounts that were publishing content supporting these attacks.
As a result, extensive investigations were launched, culminating in the referral of the accused to trial.
These sentences are part of ongoing measures taken by Bahrain to counter security threats.
Authorities recently announced the revocation of citizenship from 69 individuals in connection with similar cases.
