Homs, Syria – Syrian authorities announced on Monday that internal security forces, in close cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate, had dismantled a dangerous terrorist cell in Homs province. They also thwarted an imminent sabotage plot aimed at undermining security and stability in the central region of the country.
High-quality intelligence operation
The Syrian Ministry of Interior explained in an official statement that this successful operation was the result of meticulous intelligence efforts and intensive monitoring of the terrorist elements’ movements. Based on field information, specialized units carried out a precise raid targeting the location where the cell members were holed up.
The confrontation resulted in the neutralization of two cell members. Security forces then established full control over the site without any casualties among the raiding units.
Seizure of a huge military arsenal
The ministry revealed the extent of the cell’s equipment, stating that security forces seized a diverse arsenal of heavy and medium weapons during the operation. The seized items included launchers with advanced anti-tank missiles, sniper rifles, modern automatic rifles, and RPG launchers with their explosive warheads. Units also found large quantities of live ammunition and hand grenades. In addition, they discovered other technical and logistical equipment intended to facilitate criminal activities, assassinations, and bombings in the province.
Striking at sleeper cell hideouts
The Ministry of Interior indicated that this operation is an extension of a series of security efforts aimed at dismantling sleeper cells and drying up the sources of terrorism in various Syrian governorates.
The statement affirmed the complete readiness of the armed forces and security forces to resolutely confront any threats to the security of citizens or the integrity of Syrian territory. Furthermore, the statement emphasized that the pursuit of remnants of terrorist organizations will continue until full stability is restored.
This security operation comes at a time when the Syrian state is seeking to consolidate its control on the ground and secure international routes and vital areas. This sends a strong message about the intelligence services’ ability to infiltrate terrorist groups and thwart their operations before they are carried out.
