Liverpool, England – Liverpool manager Arne Slot commented on the performance of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, as his season with the team draws to a close.
Salah had announced his departure from the Reds at the end of the current season, as he seeks to perform at his best in the coming period, and bid farewell to the team in an ideal way by continuing to score.
Slot said at the press conference ahead of the Crystal Palace match: “It is very important that we have strikers who score goals. Our success last season depended on having more than one player who contributed to scoring, while we have not reached the same rate this season”.
The Dutch coach added: “There is a slight decrease in creating chances, but it does not match the decline in scoring goals. As Salah has said repeatedly, there are periods when a striker goes easily, and others when he puts in a lot of effort without translating that into goals, but things usually return to normal, and the normal thing for Salah is to score”.
Slot indicated that his focus is on the present, saying: “I’m here to work in the short term, and my entire focus is on the Crystal Palace game. There are discussions about next season, but they don’t occupy my thoughts at the moment”.
He continued: “The differences are very small, and one or two results could make a big difference in the standings. Two weeks ago we weren’t five points ahead of sixth place, so anything is possible”.
He concluded his remarks by saying: “Our focus is on Crystal Palace, especially since we haven’t won against them in three matches this season. In the last 8 matches, we’ve collected 16 points, which is an acceptable average, although the performance doesn’t always reflect that”.
