Tehran, Iran – Reuters reports that Iran has moved two ships it seized near the Strait of Hormuz to Bandar Abbas. This comes amid demands from several countries for urgent information regarding the safety of the crews.
International concerns about crew safety
Maritime sources reported that the two ships, seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard
with approximately 40 sailors on board, were directed to the port of Bandar Abbas.
This move came after days of escalating tensions in the strategic maritime region.
Reports indicate that the crews of the two ships, comprising sailors of various nationalities,
remain under Iranian control. Diplomatic sources confirmed that
their respective governments are demanding official clarification regarding their status and safety,
given the disruption of some of the ships’ tracking systems.
Mutual escalation at sea
These developments come amid escalating maritime tensions following the US seizure of an Iranian tanker days earlier.
Tehran has vowed retaliation, raising concerns about the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,
through which a significant portion of the world’s energy supply passes.
In light of this escalation, shipping companies and international agencies
are closely monitoring vessel movements in the region.
There are growing fears of direct impacts on supply chains and global energy prices.
