Abu Dhabi, UAE – Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church, stated that he is not interested in engaging in any debate with US President Donald Trump regarding the war in Iran. He emphasized that his primary message focuses on promoting peace.
Speaking to reporters aboard the papal plane during his flight from Cameroon to Angola, the Pope explained that the media controversy surrounding his positions does not accurately reflect his intentions. He noted that some accounts have been exaggerated or taken out of context.
Pope Leo affirmed that his sermons and statements are not directed at any specific individual, including the US president. Rather, they stem from the Gospel message, which calls for peace and rejects violence. He also pointed out that his religious role requires him to focus on universal human values.
The Pope indicated that much of the recent controversy has resulted from “comments on comments.” He explained that this refers to the chain reaction in the media surrounding his statements, stressing that he prefers not to engage in such debates. At the same time, he reiterated his desire to continue advocating for dialogue and peace.
