Paris, France – French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the need to exert every effort to reach a swift, robust, and lasting settlement to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East through diplomatic channels.
In a series of posts on the X platform, Macron emphasized that this settlement must provide a solid framework that guarantees everyone can live in lasting peace and security.
The French president explained that a lasting solution requires a comprehensive approach to all core issues, including Iran’s nuclear and missile activities and its destabilizing actions in the region.
He also stressed the paramount importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He further noted the importance of ensuring Lebanon’s return to the path of peace, with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He affirmed that France is ready to play its full role, as it has done since the beginning of the conflict.
In a practical step to counter the maritime escalation, Macron announced that France, in cooperation with the United Kingdom, will organize an international conference in the coming days for countries willing to contribute to a “multinational peacekeeping mission” aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Macron described this mission as “purely defensive” and separate from the warring parties. He also clarified that it will be deployed as soon as conditions on the ground allow. This Franco-British initiative is an attempt to find a third way to balance American military pressure and Iranian threats. It seeks to secure this vital global energy artery through multilateral international mechanisms.
