Geneva – Switzerland – The Director-General of the World Health Organization called on Israel to cancel the evacuation order for the Jnah area in the Lebanese capital Beirut, warning of serious consequences for civilians and the healthcare sector in the area.

He stressed that implementing such measures in densely populated areas threatens the lives of thousands, especially patients and the elderly, and increases pressure on hospitals and medical services that are already struggling.

He pointed out that evacuating residential areas without providing safe and organized alternatives could worsen the humanitarian crisis, calling for respect for international humanitarian law and ensuring the protection of civilians and healthcare facilities.

He emphasized the importance of facilitating the delivery of medical and humanitarian aid to affected areas, stressing that the priority must be to protect lives and avoid a new humanitarian disaster in Lebanon.
