Ottawa, Canada – A horrific murder has shaken the Iranian community in Canada, after security authorities revealed new developments in the case of the murder of Iranian mathematician and political dissident Masoud Masjoudi, whose remains were found in British Columbia, amid accusations that two people of Iranian origin were involved in carrying out the crime.

Statement from the Integrated Investigation Team

According to a statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, the victim’s remains were found on March 6, 2026, in Mission Township, near Vancouver.

This discovery came after weeks of mystery surrounding the disappearance of Masood Masjoodi, whose case police had begun investigating after receiving reports of his disappearance and loss of contact.

Two Iranians accused of killing Masjoudi

In a significant development, Canadian authorities announced first-degree murder charges against two local residents: Mehdi Ahmadzadeh Razavi, 48, of Maple Ridge, and Arzoo Soltani, 45, of North Vancouver.

Police confirmed that the two men were arrested on March 13, 2026. Investigators indicated that Massoud Masjoudi had prior acquaintance with the suspects, strengthening the hypothesis that the crime may have been a premeditated murder. Despite the formal charges, the investigation team emphasized that the case remains open to gather further evidence and determine the true motive behind the crime.

The case is particularly sensitive due to Masjoudi’s political background; he was one of the early members of the Farashgard organization, an opposition group to the Iranian regime, before later breaking away from it.

His activity against the Revolutionary Guard

Media reports also indicated that he had been active in exposing what he described as the influence of elements linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard within Canada.

In this context, media outlets quoted Iranian-Canadian activist Nazanin Afshin Jam Makai as saying that Masjoudi had been living under threats in recent months due to his political activism.

For its part, the Canadian police confirmed that the ongoing investigation will focus on determining whether the crime was politically motivated or simply a criminal act. The case has sparked widespread concern within the Iranian community in Canada, which is awaiting the full truth behind this mysterious incident.
