Tel Aviv, Israel – Israel announced that it carried out an airstrike targeting the head of Iranian military intelligence, Amir Shariat, in Tehran. Initial assessments are focused on determining whether the attack resulted in his death, along with that of several other senior military officials.

Israeli media quoted military officials as saying that the strike targeted a sensitive intelligence site in Tehran. Several high-ranking officers in the Iranian military establishment were present at the site at the time of the attack.

Targeting a sensitive intelligence site

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the army is investigating the results of the airstrike that targeted the site, to determine whether it resulted in the elimination of the head of Iranian military intelligence, his deputy, and several other senior figures associated with the agency.

Israeli sources indicated that Shariat is a prominent security figure in Iran. His name has remained largely out of the public eye within the country due to the secretive nature of his position.

Details of the military operation

For his part, Israeli military spokesman Efi Defrin said that the Israeli Air Force carried out an attack on a facility belonging to the intelligence branch of the emergency command known as “Khatam al-Anbiya.”

He explained that this command is responsible for collecting and analyzing intelligence from various Iranian security agencies and presenting it to the regime’s top leadership. He added that the raid was carried out while several senior intelligence officials from this command were present at the site.

Targeting members of the Basij

In a related development, the Israeli military announced that it had also targeted members of the Basij militia while they were working at newly established checkpoints in Tehran.

In a statement, the military explained that the air force carried out the attack under the direction of the Military Intelligence Directorate and in cooperation with the Operations Directorate. It confirmed that the strike came after monitoring the movements and activities of these Basij members at the security checkpoints. This comes as part of a series of military operations carried out by Israel during the past week.
