Tehran, Iran – Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced on Monday that it had attacked an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it was linked to the United States. This came on the third day of US and Israeli attacks on Iran. The Guard stated that “the oil tanker Athe Nova is still ablaze after being struck by two drones.”
The Strait of Hormuz is unsafe
The Revolutionary Guard explained that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway for oil and gas shipments. It noted that the strait has become unsafe due to US and Israeli attacks. It also stated that the strait was temporarily closed to ensure maritime safety and prevent further incidents.
Details of the attack on the tanker
The statement indicated that the attack was carried out using two drones that directly targeted the oil tanker. As a result, the tanker caught fire, but the extent of the damage and any casualties have not yet been announced. This attack comes amid a series of escalating tensions between Iranian, American, and Israeli forces in the region.
International warnings and the risk of escalation
The tanker Athe Nova is one of the vessels linked to US oil shipments in the Strait of Hormuz. This increases the risk of attacks on international interests in the Gulf, at a time when the United Nations and regional countries are warning against any escalation that could threaten freedom of navigation and global energy security. Iran continues to bolster its military capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, US and Israeli forces are closely monitoring the situation to ensure control of this vital waterway.
