  • Internal transformations or a rearrangement of roles

Beirut, Lebanon – Informed sources revealed on Friday that Hezbollah has accepted the resignation of prominent security official Wafiq Safa, a move considered unprecedented within the party’s structure given his sensitive position and the role he has played for many years.

Wafiq Safa is one of Hezbollah’s most prominent security figures, heading the Liaison and Coordination Unit. This unit is the body responsible for communication and coordination with official Lebanese security agencies.

In addition, he handles sensitive security and political files.

No official statements have yet been issued by the party explaining the reasons for the resignation or the timing of its acceptance.

Complex regional and security circumstances

According to the sources, the resignation was accepted on Friday,

without disclosing further details regarding internal arrangements or the identity of his successor.

This development comes amidst complex regional and security circumstances. There are also increasing political and security pressures on the party both within Lebanon and on the regional stage.

Wafiq Safa survived an assassination attempt attributed to Israel in October 2024,

an incident that garnered widespread attention at the time due to his stature and role within the party.

However, it remains unclear whether this incident or its repercussions influenced his decision to resign.

Internal transformations or a rearrangement of roles

Observers believe this move may reflect internal shifts or a reshuffling of roles and security portfolios. This is especially true since the resignation of such a prominent figure is rare in the party’s history.

Hezbollah is typically characterized by continuity and organizational stability in its leadership positions.

This news comes at a time of escalating political and security tensions in Lebanon, amidst accumulating internal crises and rapidly evolving regional developments.

Thus, it lends added significance to any changes within the active political forces.

As of the time of this report, neither Hezbollah nor Wafiq Safa himself has issued any official comment regarding the resignation or its reasons.

All eyes are now on what the coming days will reveal about the repercussions of this decision. This will likely shape its impact on the security and political landscape in Lebanon.
