Jerusalem, Palestine – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree calling on the Palestinian people,
both in the homeland and in the diaspora, to participate in the elections for the Palestinian National Council.
The decree also stipulated that the elections would be held on November 1, 2026.
The decree stipulates that elections will be held wherever possible, both within and outside Palestine,
to ensure the broadest possible participation of Palestinians wherever they reside.
The elections will be conducted according to a system of full proportional representation.
This system also guarantees fair representation for all segments of the Palestinian people,
including women, youth, and Palestinian communities abroad.
The decree further stipulates that the Central Elections Commission will have full oversight of the electoral process.
In a related development, President Abbas issued a decree setting the date
for the eighth general conference of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah).
The conference will be held in Ramallah on May 14, 2026.
It is worth noting that the Palestinian Cabinet had previously issued
a decision setting the date for local elections in Palestine as April 25, 2026.
