Beirut, Lebanon – Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem asserted that the threats made by US President Donald Trump against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei constitute, in his words,

a direct threat to regional and global stability.

He emphasized that his party would not remain neutral should Iran be subjected to any aggression.

During a speech delivered at a large public gathering in Beirut’s southern suburbs, organized in solidarity with Iran,

Qassem stated that “targeting Mr. Khamenei is not merely targeting an individual,

but rather targeting tens of millions of his followers and supporters spread across the globe.”

He considered any such threat to be “an assassination of political and security stability in the region.”

Dangerous scenarios

He explained that Hezbollah considers itself directly involved in confronting these threats,

adding that the party “has full authority to take whatever measures it deems appropriate to counter them,

based on its assessment of the nature of the risks and the magnitude of the existing challenges.”

He pointed out that any war waged against Iran at this stage would ignite the entire region and open the door to extremely dangerous scenarios.

The option of neutrality is not an option

Qassem addressed the support Iran has provided for over four decades to what he described as the “project of resistance against occupation and liberation of the land,”

emphasizing that this history of support makes it impossible for Hezbollah

to remain neutral should Tehran be subjected to American or Israeli aggression.

He also revealed that increasing questions have been raised in the past two months regarding Hezbollah’s stance

in the event of a military confrontation with Iran, explaining that the response has been clear:

“We are directly targeted, and we are determined to defend ourselves and our allies.”

He concluded by saying that the party will choose, at the appropriate time and based on the field

and political realities, how to respond, but stressed that the option of neutrality is “completely out of the question.”
