Helsinki, Finland – The Finnish president affirmed that his country successfully averted what he described as a “terrifying scenario” during the Greenland crisis, noting that the region was on the verge of sliding into a highly dangerous situation that would have threatened stability in Northern Europe and the Arctic.

In remarks carried by news agencies, the Finnish president stated that swift diplomatic action and intensive communication with relevant parties contributed to containing the crisis and preventing an uncontrolled escalation. He pointed out that the absence of dialogue would have led to serious repercussions for regional and international security.

He added that the Greenland crisis highlighted the escalating international competition in new spheres of influence, particularly given the growing strategic importance of the Arctic, whether in terms of natural resources, maritime routes, or military considerations.

He explained that Finland worked in coordination with its European and international partners to prevent unilateral actions that could inflame tensions, emphasizing that maintaining stability in the region is no longer an option but a necessity dictated by global security considerations. The Finnish president stressed that avoiding a “terrifying scenario” does not mean the threat has completely disappeared, warning that any future miscalculation could reignite the crisis. He called for strengthening political communication channels and early warning systems.

He concluded by affirming his country’s commitment to supporting peaceful solutions and working to solidify international cooperation to prevent simmering crises from escalating into open conflicts.
