Pristina, Kosovo — Heavy rainfall that swept across Kosovo this week caused severe flooding and widespread power outages. flooding resulted from the relentless downpour, prompting emergency teams to intervene in a large number of affected areas across the country, according to local authorities.

Emergency services announced that the large volumes of rain that fell within a short period led to rising water levels in rivers and waterways.

Video footage from the town of Kuzmin showed cars completely submerged in water and homes inundated by floodwaters. In addition, firefighters evacuated residents trapped inside their homes after being surrounded by rising water.

The authorities confirmed that evacuations were carried out as a precautionary measure to protect lives. Those affected were transferred to temporary shelters.

Emergency services reported receiving dozens of calls related to flash flooding and limited landslides. There was also the closure of major and secondary roads due to water accumulation.

Additional rescue teams and pumping equipment were deployed to remove water from the most affected areas, especially towns located near rivers.

Authorities warn citizens

The authorities urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid traveling through flooded areas, and adhere to safety instructions issued by emergency services.

Residents were also encouraged to immediately report any emergencies or potential hazards resulting from the continued unstable weather conditions.

These flooding come amid warnings that rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days. This raises concerns about a worsening situation in some areas.

The government confirmed that it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant agencies.

This is to secure essential services and reduce the impact of the disaster on residents and infrastructure.
