Beijing, China – The Chinese government has announced new restrictions on exports of chemicals used in the manufacture of fentanyl. This move aims to curb the spread of synthetic drugs and address the escalating addiction crisis in North America.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated in an official statement that the decision includes stricter controls on exports of raw materials and chemical compounds used in the production of fentanyl and its derivatives. This applies to exports to the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and will be implemented in coordination with relevant security and customs authorities.
Beijing affirmed that this step is in line with its international commitments to combat drug trafficking and the illicit trade in toxic substances. It also indicated its continued cooperation with the international community to enhance oversight and transparency in the movement of sensitive chemicals.
Fentanyl is one of the most dangerous synthetic drugs in the world, far more potent than heroin. Its derivatives have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths in the United States in recent years, leading Washington to describe the crisis as a threat to national security and public health.
Several Western countries welcomed the Chinese move, viewing it as a positive development in the global fight against fentanyl trafficking. Meanwhile, drug enforcement experts called for expanded international cooperation to pursue smuggling networks and illicit production facilities.
