Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Chinese President Xi Jinping is close to convincing US President Donald Trump to “isolate Taiwan.” He aims to reject its independence efforts, which were supported by his predecessor, Joe Biden, informed sources told the Wall Street Journal.

According to the newspaper, Beijing is working towards an official American declaration opposing Taiwan independence.

This comes after President Xi Jinping paved the way for a full year of high-level engagement with the Trump administration.

The Wall Street Journal quoted the sources as saying that Beijing sees this hoped-for position as a shift from traditional American policy.

Washington is content not to support Taiwan independence without explicitly opposing it.

In contrast, a secret US military intelligence report showed that China is rapidly strengthening its commercial ferry fleet. This is in preparation for a “possible invasion” of Taiwan.

American information indicates, according to the report, that large ocean-going ships have undergone technical modifications. These changes enable them to carry tanks and participate in amphibious landings.

Media outlets indicated that they had reviewed the report on the condition that they not quote directly from it. This was in order to preserve the source of the information.

She reported that about 30 Chinese commercial ferries were spotted in 2022 during military exercises. In these exercises, Chinese army soldiers participated.

This is done by the Five Eyes intelligence coalition, which includes Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Britain, and the United States.

The report indicated that China plans to build more than 70 of these large ships by the end of 2026.

The Taiwanese government confirmed that it considers these ships part of China’s “expansionist intentions” towards the island.
