Paris, France – Today marks the birthday of French artist Edgar Degas, one of the leading figures of Impressionism, who left a unique mark on the history of visual art thanks

to his ability to transform ordinary, everyday scenes into timeless works of art.

These works combine academic precision with innovation in composition and movement.

Degas was born on July 19, 1834, in Paris, France. He grew up in a well-to-do family that allowed him to study art from a young age.

Although his name is associated with the Impressionist movement,

he preferred to describe himself as a realist artist who focused on depicting people

and their movements rather than recording the changes of light and nature.

This differed from the approach of most Impressionists.

The most famous paintings of the artist Degas

Degas is best known for his paintings of ballet dancers, producing hundreds of works that documented

their rehearsals and backstage lives, far removed from the formal atmosphere of performances.

He also painted scenes of horse races, cafes, singers, and laundresses, employing unconventional angles

and compositions inspired by photography, which was widespread in his time.

The French artist relied on pastels and oil paints. His works are distinguished

by their realistic portrayal of human movement and emotion.

This makes the viewer feel as if they are observing a living moment frozen within the frame of the painting.

This is what has given his works exceptional artistic value that has endured for decades.

Deja’s health deteriorated and he lost his sight

During his later years, Degas’s health gradually deteriorated, and he lost much of his sight.

Despite this, he continued to create, turning to sculpture.

This enabled him to produce a collection of works that are still displayed in the world’s most prestigious museums.

Among his most famous is “The Little Dancer of Fourteen,” considered

one of the most iconic sculptures in the history of modern art.

Edgar Degas passed away on September 27, 1917, at the age of 83,

leaving behind a vast artistic legacy comprising hundreds of paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

His influence remains present in art schools worldwide,

as he was one of the few artists who succeeded in capturing the details of everyday life

and transforming them into timeless works that transcend the boundaries of time and place.
