Copenhagen, Denmark – The Danish Royal Court announced on Thursday that former Queen Margrethe II had been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack.

The court confirmed that her condition was under close medical observation at a hospital in Copenhagen.

In an official statement, the Royal Court explained that the 86-year-old former queen was admitted to the hospital feeling unwell.

The statement added that her spirits remained high despite her illness.

The statement further indicated that Margrethe II would remain hospitalized

for the coming days for further medical tests and continuous monitoring.

This comes amid widespread interest in the former queen’s health within Denmark.

Medical follow-up of her health condition

The statement indicated that the medical team overseeing the former Queen of Denmark’s case is continuing to conduct the necessary tests to ensure her health remains stable.

The statement did not disclose further details regarding the nature of her treatment or the likelihood of her discharge from the hospital.

Margrethe II is one of the most prominent royal figures in Europe. She reigned over Denmark for more

than five decades before abdicating in January 2024 in favor of her eldest son, King Frederik X.

Historic abdication of the throne

The former Queen of Denmark surprised the Danish people by announcing her abdication

after 52 years on the throne, a move described at the time as historic.

This was especially true given that it came after years of widespread popularity within the country.

King Frederick X was crowned the new King of Denmark following his mother’s abdication.

The ceremony was a grand affair, attended by a large crowd of people and media.

Widespread interest within Denmark

The announcement of the former Queen of Denmark’s hospitalization sparked a wave of reactions in Danish political, public, and media circles.

This is due to her high standing among the Danish people and her long history of public service.

Margrethe II is known for her cultural and artistic activities alongside her royal duties. During her reign,

she participated in numerous national and international events, contributing significantly

to enhancing the image of the Danish royal family on a European and global scale.

No official announcement has yet been made regarding her discharge date.

Currently, the Danish public is anxiously awaiting updates on her health in the coming days.
