Cairo, Egypt – The Cairo Economic Court ruled on Tuesday to uphold the ruling fining artist Mohamed Ramadan 300,000 Egyptian pounds, following accusations of defamation against a well-known media figure.
Details of the incident
The court’s decision came during the first hearing of the trial, in which the artist was charged with using social media in a manner that the plaintiff considered a direct abuse, including slander and defamation, in addition to misusing means of communication, according to the case file.
The case file explained that the charges included deliberately harassing the victim through posts and statements attributed to the artist on social media, which prompted the latter to take the necessary legal action.
Paid subscription raises controversy
On the other hand, Mohamed Ramadan sparked widespread controversy after announcing the launch of a paid monthly subscription system through his official Instagram account, in an unusual move among art stars in Egypt.
Exclusive content for 1000 Egyptian pounds
Ramadan revealed that the new subscription costs 1,000 Egyptian pounds per month and offers subscribers exclusive benefits, including early access to his artistic works and behind-the-scenes glimpses of his projects that are not shared with the public. The subscription also includes attendance at special events featuring the artist, as well as exclusive content via his Instagram Stories, thus enhancing direct communication with his most engaged audience.
