Athens, Greece – The Greek National Health Service Provider (EOPYY) has uncovered a large-scale fraud operation involving illegal prescriptions, which has caused significant financial losses to the organization. This comes as part of an ongoing intensive inspection campaign.

Details of losses and penalties: The results of the audits and review of arrears for October revealed the following facts:

The extent of the financial damage: The value of the money wasted as a result of these illegal prescriptions was estimated at around 12 million euros.

Fines imposed: The Authority decided to impose immediate financial fines totaling 98,500 euros on the parties involved.

Ongoing investigations and expanded prosecution: The campaign did not stop there. The organization announced that the audits are still ongoing and have expanded to include:

Investigation into 10 doctors and an additional 80 pharmacies.

These new investigations stem from three criminal cases referred by the financial police and reviewed by the organization, suggesting the possibility of uncovering more individuals involved in the coming period.
