Geneva, Switzerland – Slovenian Tade Bogachar, a cyclist for the Emirates-XRG cycling team, won the title of the first stage of the Tour de Switzerland. After he gave an exceptional performance that enabled him to seize the lead in the race and wear the yellow jersey for the overall leader.
The two-time world champion gradually widened the gap over his closest rivals. He crossed the finish line in 3 hours, 28 minutes and 51 seconds, 2 minutes and 14 seconds ahead of Ecuadorian Richard Carabaz of the EF Education – Easy Post team. Meanwhile, Italian Andrea Baggioli from the Lidl-Trek team came third, two minutes and 29 seconds behind.

After the end of the stage, Pugachar topped the overall standings of the Tour with a total time of 3 hours, 28 minutes and 37 seconds. He was two minutes and 22 seconds ahead of Carabaz, while Baggioli came third, two minutes and 39 seconds behind.
