Washington, DC – The US Secretary of Defense announced that his country does not rule out a return to military operations if Iran violates the terms of the existing agreement. He also affirmed that the US military is in a constant state of readiness to deal with any unexpected developments regarding the Iranian issue.
The Secretary explained that Washington is closely monitoring Tehran’s compliance with the agreement. He indicated that any significant breach could prompt a comprehensive reassessment of the security situation in the region. He added that the options under consideration include various deterrent measures. At the same time, he did not rule out military escalation if necessary.
He also stressed that the primary objective of the US administration remains preventing Iran from developing capabilities that threaten regional stability. He noted that diplomatic cooperation remains the preferred option, but that it is “not unlimited,” as he put it.
These statements come amid renewed tensions surrounding the nuclear agreement. Meanwhile, there are international warnings that any collapse of the understandings could lead to a new wave of tension in the Middle East.
