Abu Dhabi, UAE – Abdullah Al Alaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, met with Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and the United Nations in the areas of energy, sustainability and water-related priorities.

The two sides discussed the UAE’s ongoing efforts to enhance international cooperation in support of sustainable development. Especially through practical partnerships, innovative solutions and initiatives that contribute to accelerating progress towards achieving global priorities.
The meeting also highlighted preparations related to the “United Nations Water Conference 2026”, which will be hosted by the UAE in partnership with Senegal in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10, 2026. The conference is expected to constitute an important global platform to accelerate implementation and mobilize partnerships and funding. Strengthening the position of the water file within the sustainable development agenda, by translating the political momentum of the conference into practical initiatives and partnerships.

Openness to global partnerships
His Excellency Al Alaa affirmed the UAE’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations and international partners to support the success of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference and contribute to its outcomes.
His Excellency noted that the UAE is open to global partnerships regarding water-related investments and initiatives. Including areas related to water resilience, innovation, sustainable water resource management, and practical solutions that can support collective progress.
The meeting affirmed the strength of the partnership between the UAE and the United Nations, and the shared commitment to enhancing comprehensive, solutions-based practical cooperation. In support of global sustainability priorities and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6.
