Dubai, UAE – The UAE has established itself as a leading regional hub in the transition towards sustainable transport. After topping the Middle East countries for the second year in a row in the percentage of electric car sales. According to a report by the International Energy Agency issued within “Global EV Outlook 2026”, which confirmed that the state accounts for about 50% of total electric vehicle sales in the region. This reflects the accelerating shift towards green mobility and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in future technologies.

This achievement reflects the results of the National Electric Vehicle Policy launched by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in 2023. With the aim of accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles, expanding charging station infrastructure, and stimulating investments in sustainable mobility solutions. In support of the state’s efforts to build a smart and sustainable transportation system.

proactive vision

The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, Eng. Sharif Al-Ulama, confirmed that the UAE’s topping of electric vehicle sales indicators in the region reflects a proactive vision adopted by the leadership. To consolidate the country’s position as a global center for sustainable mobility and innovation in the energy and transportation sectors.

He said the report confirms the UAE’s success in establishing an attractive environment for electric vehicle manufacturers and expanding their presence in the local market. Supported by an advanced legislative system and advanced infrastructure. In line with the transformational project “A Global Market for Electric Vehicles”, and the goals of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050. The state’s efforts to enhance energy efficiency and raise the quality of life.

Qualitative achievements towards a green economy

The scientists added that the UAE continues to achieve qualitative achievements in the transition towards a green economy. Driven by an ambitious national vision aimed at building a more efficient transportation system based on clean technologies. This achievement embodies the success of national policies and strategies that have enhanced the country’s readiness to absorb global transformations in the electric vehicle sector.

He stated that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in cooperation with its partners from the public and private sectors, is working to accelerate the development of an integrated system to support the spread of electric vehicles. Includes expanding charging station infrastructure and stimulating investment and innovation in green mobility solutions. Emirates’ launch of electric vehicle charging stations is a strategic step towards developing an advanced national charging network that supports the expansion of electric vehicle use and increases the readiness of the country’s future infrastructure.
