Vienna, Austria – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that the United Arab Emirates has informed it of the restoration of external electricity supplies to Unit 3 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. This follows yesterday’s drone attack, which caused a fire in a generator near the site.
Restoring electricity to Unit 3
The agency confirmed via its official X platform that power was restored earlier today. It also noted that Emirati authorities are continuing to coordinate with the IAEA regarding developments and technical procedures related to the power plant.
International monitoring of station safety
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that it is closely monitoring developments and maintaining ongoing communication with relevant authorities in the UAE. This is to ensure the safety of operations and that critical systems at the plant remain unaffected.

Confirmation of safe radiation levels
UAE authorities had previously confirmed that the fire occurred in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region. No injuries or impact on radiation safety levels were reported. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation also emphasized that the plant’s units continue to operate normally.
Ongoing investigations into the attack
In the same context, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that air defenses engaged three drones that entered the country’s airspace from the west. The ministry explained that two were intercepted, while the third struck a power generator outside the station’s perimeter. Meanwhile, the investigation continues to determine the source and circumstances of the attack.
