Dubai, UAE – The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that UAE air defenses dealt today, Sunday, with three drones that entered the country’s airspace from the western border. The ministry confirmed that two of them were successfully intercepted. Meanwhile, the third struck an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the Al Dhafra region.

In an official statement, the ministry said the competent authorities have launched investigations to determine the source of these attacks. Moreover, it added that further updates will be announced once the investigations and the necessary technical and security procedures are completed.

Location of Barakah and the Western Border

The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi. It overlooks the Arabian Gulf and is about 53 kilometers southwest of Al Dhannah City. The western side of the country represents a broad land-border area. This area extends toward the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Two Drones Intercepted, Electrical Generator Hit

The Ministry of Defense said UAE air defense systems detected the drones as soon as they entered the country’s airspace and successfully dealt with two of them. However, the third caused a fire in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

The competent authorities had earlier confirmed that the fire was brought under control, with no human injuries or radiation impact recorded. They also stated that the plant continued operating normally.

Investigations Underway to Identify the Source of the Attack

The ministry said investigations are still ongoing to identify the party behind the attack. It stressed that security and military agencies are closely following all details related to the incident.

The incident comes amid rising regional tensions and growing concerns over the targeting of vital facilities. There are also concerns over infrastructure in the region.

UAE Reaffirms Readiness to Protect the Country

The UAE Ministry of Defense stressed that it remains fully prepared and ready to deal with any threats targeting the country’s security or stability. It affirmed that it will firmly confront anything that could undermine the UAE’s security or threaten its national interests.

The ministry added that the UAE Armed Forces continue to take all necessary measures to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. They also continue efforts to safeguard citizens, residents and vital facilities across the nation.
