Abu Dhabi, UAE – Al Wahda snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against hosts Khorfakkan in a match played this evening at Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Stadium, as part of the 25th round of the ADNOC Pro League.
Khorfakkan opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Ngossian Kouadio, after he took advantage of a ball inside the penalty area and shot it powerfully to the left of goalkeeper Zayed Al Hammadi.
Despite Al Wahda dominating possession with 62% compared to 38% for Khorfakkan, the home side were the more dangerous offensively, thanks to the movements of the duo Salim Amlah and Tariq Tissoudali.
Tissoudali almost gave Khorfakkan an early goal in the fifth minute, after a superb pass from Amlah, but goalkeeper Zayed Al Hammadi made a brilliant save to deny the attempt.
In contrast, goalkeeper Ahmed Hamdan played a starring role for Khorfakkan, after he saved several clear chances against Omar Kharbin and Christian Benteke during the first half.
Kouadio missed a chance to increase the score in the 39th minute, after he shot a ball from inside the penalty area that went past the post, while defender Abdullah Al-Rifai saved his team from a certain goal before the end of the first half, after he cleared Benteke’s attempt off the goal line.
In the second half, Al Wahda intensified their attacking pressure in search of an equalizer, and Benteke almost scored in the 57th minute, but the left post denied the visiting team a goal, and Ahmed Hamdan continued his brilliance by saving an attempt by substitute Brahima Diarra.
As the match was heading towards a Khorfakkan victory, Mohammed Rasool snatched a killer equalizer for Al Wahda in the 96th minute, after he headed a corner kick taken by Gaston Suarez into the net.
