Dubai, UAE – Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the launch of the “Billion Meals Date Factory,” the world’s largest endowment date factory. Its production capacity will reach 150 million food units annually, and its units will be dedicated entirely to supporting underprivileged communities and bolstering humanitarian efforts globally.
Sustainable humanitarian project
This project, part of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, represents a significant investment in philanthropy. It aims to provide a food safety net for the most vulnerable groups, particularly in countries facing food security challenges.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid affirms that the project represents a humanitarian message from the UAE to the world. He also emphasized the country’s commitment to providing food and a dignified life for those in need, and to supporting international efforts to eradicate hunger. This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
Integrated industrial system
The factory, planned for the Margham area of Dubai, will cost up to AED 200 million. It will utilize state-of-the-art food processing technologies to transform dates into vitamin- and mineral-enriched food products, ensuring the provision of high-quality, healthy meals.
The project also contributes to supporting the local economy by promoting date palm cultivation, creating job opportunities, and expanding Emirati food exports. This aligns with the goal of integrating humanitarian work with economic development. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, further solidifying the UAE’s position as a global hub for humanitarian work and philanthropic food industries.
