Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The UAE government held a media briefing to review the latest developments and current situation in the region. It also outlined the measures taken to ensure the security of the country. In addition, it discussed the safety of its citizens and residents.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Abdul Nasser Al-Humaidi, affirmed that the UAE possesses the highest levels of readiness and preparedness. It also boasts advanced defense and weapons systems. Some of these systems are manufactured domestically. Therefore, this enables it to defend its territory and protect its people. This applies regardless of the duration of any escalation.
Various air defense systems
During the briefing, Al-Humaidi explained that the country possesses diverse, integrated, and multi-layered air defense systems. These are capable of effectively countering various aerial threats through long-, medium-, and short-range systems. Furthermore, these systems provide comprehensive airspace coverage.
He revealed that since the start of the Iranian aggression, the UAE’s air defenses have engaged 186 ballistic missiles launched towards the country. Of these, 172 were destroyed, 13 fell into the sea, and one landed within the country’s territory.
He indicated that the sounds heard in various parts of the country were the result of air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles. In addition, Emirati fighter jets engaged drones and other aerial vehicles.
He explained that these statistics reflect the complete readiness and proactive plans implemented by the armed forces and relevant authorities. This has contributed to dealing efficiently and effectively with various types of threats. He also confirmed that the scattering of debris when intercepting missiles and drones is a known military phenomenon. Moreover, he clarified that the minor injuries and damage recorded were not the result of direct hits on targets within the country.
He emphasized that the air defense systems, in accordance with the established rules of engagement and operational safety procedures, successfully engaged hostile targets in a timely manner. This minimized the damage and prevented greater loss of life and property.
He added that the armed forces are monitoring around the clock any developments on the ground that could affect the security of the state, its airspace, territorial waters, or land. He also noted that effective and well-considered operational measures have been taken. These measures include strengthening defensive deployments. Additionally, they involve raising combat readiness levels and enhancing monitoring and early warning systems. This ensures the highest levels of preparedness to protect the homeland and safeguard its sovereignty.
The UAE reserves its right to self-defense.
For her part, Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, affirmed that the UAE reserves its full right to self-defense. She also emphasized that the UAE’s position regarding recent developments is based on clear and unwavering principles.
She explained that the UAE, along with the other Gulf states, exerted intensive diplomatic efforts to avert military confrontation and prevent escalation. This is based on its belief that the security of the Gulf states is indivisible.
Al Hashemi added that Iran launched its attacks without taking the UAE’s position into account. She confirmed that the UAE took steps by closing its embassy in Tehran and withdrawing its ambassador. These actions were part of the measures it deemed appropriate to protect its interests and security.
She emphasized that the UAE’s message is clear: the Iranian attacks are unjustified and have serious repercussions for the security and stability of the region. She affirmed that despite the gravity of the events, the UAE’s position remains balanced and based on wisdom and restraint. Nevertheless, the country is committed to protecting its national security and preserving regional stability.
