Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The United Arab Emirates announced on Sunday the closure of its embassy in Tehran and the withdrawal of its ambassador and all members of its diplomatic mission from the Islamic Republic of Iran, following Iranian missile attacks targeting UAE territory. These attacks included residential areas, airports, ports, and service facilities, and directly threatened the lives of civilians.
The official position of the UAE
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that this measure reflects the state’s firm and unwavering stance in rejecting any aggression against its security and sovereignty. It noted the continuation of Iran’s aggressive approach, which undermines opportunities for de-escalation and pushes the region toward a dangerous escalation that threatens regional and international security and stability, energy security, and the stability of the global economy.
Iranian attacks and their impact
The UAE considered the Iranian attacks a blatant violation of national sovereignty and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter. It also emphasized that expanding the scope of these attacks to include brotherly and friendly nations further complicates the regional situation. Moreover, this escalation threatens the stability of the entire region.
Next steps and commitment to respond
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the country will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its security and sovereignty, while closely monitoring developments. It also emphasized the importance of working with international and regional partners to prevent any further escalation, ensure the safety and security of citizens and residents, and promote stability in the region.
