The discovery represents an important step towards developing lightweight and durable materials that can be used in harsh environments.

Such as outer space, the deep sea and the polar regions.

The new crystals are distinguished by their ability to restore their structure and properties.

Including light transmission, at temperatures up to minus 196 degrees Celsius, which is the boiling point of liquid nitrogen.

Which makes it suitable for use in flexible optical and electronic devices that operate in harsh climatic conditions.

This discovery is the first of its kind to prove the ability of solid organic crystals to self-repair over a wide range of temperatures.

Including scores close to absolute zero.

This achievement would open new horizons for designing advanced devices and technologies that can be relied upon in space and extremely cold environments.
