Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The curtain fell on the fourth day of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX). The 22nd edition of this global event is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Falconers’ Club. It is organized by ADNEC Group, a Modon company, in cooperation with the Emirates Falconers’ Club.

The fourth day featured a distinguished array of events that highlighted the diversity of Emirati heritage. These were innovative, futuristic displays engaging visitors of all ages, presenting a vibrant lifestyle and outdoor adventure. Moreover, these activities attract attendees to the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.

Children’s Activities at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition

As part of its participation as a heritage partner in the 22nd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority presented a unique interactive experience for children. This involved the “Haddad” challenge, which aimed to introduce the public to the art of falconry and the authentic Emirati skills and values it embodies.

At the Authority’s pavilion, visitors experience a digital encounter via an electronic screen. They assume the role of a falconer and virtually fly a falcon in a race against time. The challenge includes a set of heritage questions that test participants’ knowledge. These questions earn them points that qualify them to advance to more difficult levels, in an enjoyable educational journey. Indeed, these activities strengthen young people’s connection to their national heritage.

One of the most prominent activities that attracted children’s attention was the “Little Falconer’s Village.” It hosted practical workshops that introduced children to the world of falcons. This ranged from safe handling techniques to the making of traditional falconry tools such as burqas, anklets, and jasiyat. Children also participated in arts and crafts activities inspired by this ancient heritage, giving them a sense of connection to events like the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.

The event featured interactive workshops in the Emirati Majlis etiquette and Arabic coffee preparation area. Children learned about the details of traditional Bedouin life, including desert camps and falconry practices. The “Ezba” area was dedicated to instilling the values of Emirati hospitality. Here, children were taught the art of receiving guests, majlis etiquette, and the correct way to pour and serve Arabic coffee. This was all within a framework aimed at instilling these authentic traditions in the souls of future generations.

Knowledge Platform: Exploring the World of Desert Insects

As part of the Knowledge Platform’s activities, Dr. Anitha Saji, Senior Entomologist and Biodiversity Researcher at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, delivered a rich lecture on the world of desert insects. This highlighted their vital importance to the desert ecosystem.

Dr. Saji explained that insects are not merely minor components of nature. They play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. They do this by contributing to nutrient cycling, decomposition processes, and improving soil fertility. She emphasized that these tiny creatures are a wonderful example of adaptability. They not only survive in the harsh desert environment but also thrive and perform multiple ecological functions.

The exhibition is a leading cultural and sporting destination in the region.

The Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) is the largest event of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It brings together the latest innovations, technologies, and trends across 15 diverse sectors. These include equestrian, falconry, shooting, camping, and hunting tourism. In addition, there are safaris, fishing, and marine sports. It also includes arts and crafts, as well as numerous outdoor sports and recreational activities. This underscores the importance of ADIHEX as a pivotal event in the region.

This year’s exhibition features a rich program of events, shows, and competitions. These activities celebrate the UAE’s heritage and authentic culture, in harmony with the spirit of innovation and renewal. Through this unique combination, the exhibition continues to consolidate its position as a global platform for hunting and equestrian sports. It is also a center for education and knowledge exchange, a forum for forging commercial partnerships. Moreover, it plays a pioneering role in promoting innovative concepts of sustainability.
