Kuwait – The Kuwaiti Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced today the suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights at Kuwait International Airport. Aircraft have been diverted to alternative airports until further notice, pending the completion of necessary procedures to ensure passenger safety and air navigation.
This urgent decision was made in light of the ongoing security developments in the country. At the same time, official sources confirmed that intensive work is underway to ensure the airport is fully operational and to resume operations as soon as possible.
The Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement explaining that specialized technical and engineering teams have already begun field visits to inspect and assess the extent of the damage inflicted on the airport’s vital facilities and operational systems following the attack. This strategic step aims to complete repairs, maintenance, and reconstruction as quickly as possible to minimize the closure period. However, officials at the authority did not provide further details regarding the specific date and timeline for the airport’s full resumption of operations.
For its part, the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), via its Twitter account (formerly known as “X”), reported that the terrorist attack resulted in significant damage and widespread destruction to several vital airport facilities. In addition, several people were injured at the scene at the time of the attack, prompting a large-scale medical mobilization to treat the injured and ensure the safety of staff and passengers.
In the same context, the Kuwaiti Army issued an official statement announcing casualties and significant material damage at Kuwait International Airport facilities, following a direct attack by hostile Iranian drones that violated the country’s sovereign airspace.
The Kuwaiti Army General Staff confirmed that it is closely monitoring the complex security situation and coordinating directly and continuously with all relevant security and civilian authorities in the country.
The General Staff emphasized in its concluding statement that it will not hesitate to take all necessary and appropriate defensive and security measures to preserve the nation’s security. It affirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty and stability against any armed external attacks that threaten the safety of citizens and residents on its territory.
