Paris, France – The International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned of a severe shortage threatening jet fuel supplies in several European countries. This comes amid rising global demand for air travel and declining refining and supply capacity within the continent.
In a recent report, the agency stated that fuel markets in Europe are experiencing a clear imbalance between supply and demand. This has led to increased pressure on supply chains, particularly as air travel recovers faster than production at some refineries.
Estimates indicate that increased demand from airlines, coupled with disruptions in shipping and supply chains, has exacerbated the crisis. This presents airlines with potential challenges related to operating costs and supply stability in the coming period.
The report also noted that some European countries may be forced to increase their reliance on imports from outside the continent to compensate for the shortfall. This could raise the energy bill for the aviation sector and exacerbate inflationary pressures related to transportation and travel.
Analysts believe that this continued shortage could impact ticket prices and travel, especially during peak tourist seasons. This will occur unless swift measures are taken to boost production or diversify supply sources within the European market.
