Brussels, Belgium – Kevin De Bruyne, the star of the Belgian national team, confirmed his readiness to participate in the 2026 World Cup. He pointed out that his country’s ambitions in the competition will largely depend on the nature of the opponents they will face during their journey in the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup competitions will begin in 11 days, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
The Belgian national team is in Group G, along with the national teams of Egypt, Iran and New Zealand.
De Bruyne told VTM NIEUWS: “I’m really looking forward to the World Cup and I’m not feeling any nervousness. This will be my fourth time participating in the tournament, and after everything I’ve been through in my career, I’m preparing for it now with more ease and calm. It’s true that I’m a little older now, but my first goal is to enjoy the experience”.
Regarding Belgium’s ambitions in the World Cup, he explained: “It’s difficult to set a ceiling for ambitions before the tournament starts, as it largely depends on the opponent you will face at each stage. This is the reality of any major tournament; you have to be realistic and know who you will play against and when”.
Belgium will begin their World Cup campaign against Egypt at the “Lomenfield” stadium on June 15.
