Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid suffered their first defeat in the Spanish League this season, after falling to their host Real Betis by a score of 1-0, in the match that brought them together on Friday evening at the La Cartuja stadium, as part of the fourth round of the competition.
The first half ended in a goalless draw, despite Real Madrid’s attempts to reach the home team’s goal, before Betis managed to break the deadlock during the final minutes.
The only goal of the match came in the 81st minute through Irish striker Troy Parrott, who followed up after Thibaut Courtois saved a shot inside the penalty area, putting it into the net and giving Betis the lead.

Real Madrid had a valuable opportunity to equalize in stoppage time, after the referee awarded them a penalty, but Kylian Mbappe missed it in the 90+4 minute, after goalkeeper Alvaro Valles saved his shot.
With this loss, Real Madrid’s tally remains frozen at 9 points in second place in the Spanish League standings, while Real Betis raised its tally to 9 points, equaling the Royal team and Barcelona, the leader, who will face Valencia later in the same round.
