Buenos Aires, Argentina – Argentine media reports indicate that Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the Argentine national team, is considering several changes to his starting lineup ahead of their upcoming match against Egypt. This match will take place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Argentina will face Egypt next Tuesday evening in a match where the “Tango Dancers” will seek to continue their title defense and advance to the quarterfinals.
TYC Sports reported that Scaloni has not yet finalized his starting lineup, as he awaits the closed training session scheduled before traveling to Atlanta. The Argentina coach will decide on his final squad after assessing the players’ physical and technical condition.
The report explained that the Argentinian coach does not intend to overhaul the lineup. However, he is considering making changes to every line of the team. Thus, the number of possible changes could reach a maximum of three.
The report indicated that Nicolas Tagliafico is the most likely candidate to occupy the left-back position, given Facundo Medina’s injury during the match against Cape Verde in the round of 32.
In midfield, Scaloni is considering starting either Leandro Paredes or Nicolas Gonzalez, or both, to bolster control of the center of the pitch. This comes after the team’s difficulties in the previous match.
The report also suggested that Julian Alvarez would return to the starting lineup after his physical condition improved. He is expected to replace Lautaro Martinez in the forward line.
Argentina had secured their place in the round of 16 with some difficulty, qualifying after a 3-2 victory over Cape Verde in extra time in the round of 32.
