Foxborough, USA – Paraguay pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 World Cup, knocking out Germany on penalties to secure their place in the round of 16.
The original and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw, before Paraguay won the match 4-3 on penalties.
Julio Enciso put Paraguay ahead in the 42nd minute, while Kai Havertz equalized for Germany in the 54th minute, and the score remained unchanged until the end of extra time.

The two teams resorted to penalty kicks, which smiled on Paraguay with a score of 4-3, achieving a resounding surprise and eliminating one of the most prominent candidates to compete for the title.
