Seattle, USA – Qatar’s national team concluded its participation in the 2026 World Cup with a 3-1 loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The match took place at Seattle Stadium as part of the third and final round of the group stage.
The Qatari national team failed to maintain its slim hopes of competing. Therefore, it exited the tournament in the first round for the second consecutive time, managing only a single point – its first ever in the history of its World Cup participation.
Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina kept their hopes alive of reaching the round of 32 after increasing their points tally. They also awaited the results of other groups to determine their status as one of the best third-placed teams.
Karim Alabijovic opened the scoring for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 30th minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. Then, just four minutes later, Qatar’s woes deepened when Sultan Al-Barrak scored an own goal.
Before the end of the first half, Hassan Al-Haydos managed to revive Al-Annabi’s hopes after reducing the deficit with a goal in the 44th minute. Thus, the first half ended with Bosnia and Herzegovina leading 2-1.
While Qatar searched for a way back into the game in the second half, Ermin Mahmic capitalized on a defensive mix-up inside the penalty area. He scored Bosnia and Herzegovina’s third goal in the 81st minute, securing his team’s victory and extinguishing Qatar’s hopes of a comeback.
