Madrid, Spain – Atletico Madrid announced that their player Pablo Barrios has been injured, ahead of the anticipated clash against Arsenal in the semi-finals of the 2025-2026 Champions League season.
Atletico Madrid will host Arsenal at the Metropolitano Stadium in the first leg of the semi-final of the tournament.
The club stated in an official statement that Barrios is suffering from a muscle injury in his left thigh. The statement also clarified that the player sustained this injury during the match against Athletic Bilbao last Saturday.
The statement explained that the player underwent medical examinations that confirmed the injury. He will therefore undergo a treatment and rehabilitation program, with his return date to be determined based on his progress.
According to Marca, Barrios is expected to be out for a month. This means he will miss both legs of the semi-final against Arsenal. However, there remains a chance he could be available for the final should Diego Simeone’s team qualify.
Barrios’ absence is a significant blow for the Atletico Madrid coach. Therefore, he is likely to rely on the duo of Koke and Marcos Llorente to fill the void in midfield.
