Liverpool, England – Liverpool manager Arne Slot has asserted that his team has the ability to compete with Paris Saint-Germain in their upcoming match. He also indicated that Alexander Isak will not start the game.
Liverpool will host Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, in a highly anticipated clash between the two teams.
Slot said during the pre-match press conference: “Isaac trained with the team for about a week to be available, otherwise he wouldn’t have been included. But after discussions with the player and the coaching staff, we saw that he wouldn’t be ready to start the match, that’s clear”.
He added: “The first 35 minutes give me great confidence in our ability to keep up with a team like Paris Saint-Germain, which is one of the best in open play, thanks to the quality of its players and the way it is organized”.
He continued: “Reaching the Champions League quarter-finals is always a special moment, and the tournament cannot be underestimated. Paris Saint-Germain are performing at a great level. Their style is also very similar to Manchester City’s, which presents a great challenge for us”.
The Liverpool manager continued: “This is another opportunity to prove that we are not the team that appeared modest for a short period. We seek to move past those moments, especially after what happened at the Etihad Stadium”.
Slot emphasized: “I don’t care much about who is the favorite to win, as things can change in two matches. Both teams have outstanding players, and they performed at similar levels last season”.
He concluded his remarks by saying: “My focus is solely on the next match; I’m not thinking about the distant future. Facing Paris Saint-Germain is a big challenge; they are a very strong team, and small details can make the difference, as happened last season. After that, we will think about facing Fulham, which will not be easy either”.
