Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The Sharjah Women’s Sports Team opens its campaign in the 26th edition of the Arab Women’s Basketball Championship. This is called the “Arab Tiger Championship”.

This will be done by meeting the Kuwaiti Al-Fatat team. The event will be held in Medina, Saudi Arabia, from September 10 to 19.

The tournament draw was held on Sunday remotely via video communication technology, under the supervision of the Arab Basketball Federation.

It resulted in the seven participating teams being distributed according to a single-round league system. Each team will play 6 matches.

The clubs are ranked from first to seventh.

After the end of the first round matches, the leading team meets the second-place team. This will determine the edition champion, gold medalist, and runner-up.

The third will meet the fourth to determine the bronze medal winner.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club is participating in the tournament as a representative of Emirati basketball.

This was in his capacity as league and cup champion last season.

In addition to the teams of Al-Fuhais of Jordan, the title holder, Al-Ula of Saudi Arabia, Al-Fatah, and Al-Qurain of Kuwait, there are other participants. These include Al-Hala of Bahrain and Kosidar of Algeria.

South Korea began their 2026 World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic in their opening Group A match early Friday morning. The game was played at the Estadio de Akron in Mexico, just hours after the host nation, Mexico, defeated South Africa 2-0 in the tournament's opening match. An Egyptian refereeing team, led by international referee Amin Omar, officiated the match, assisted by Mahmoud Abu El-Regal and Ahmed Hossam Taha, with Mahmoud Ashour in charge of VAR. The first half ended goalless, with both teams playing cautiously, before the pace of the game shifted in the second half. The Czech Republic took the lead in the 59th minute through Ladislav Krejčí, putting his team ahead and putting South Korea under pressure. South Korea responded quickly, with Beom Hwang equalizing in the 67th minute, bringing the game back to square one. The following minutes were full of excitement as the Czech Republic thought they had found the net again, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a review of the play. South Korea capitalized on their momentum, securing a 1-0 victory in the 80th minute through substitute Hyun-gyu Oh, who converted his team's second-half dominance into a valuable win. With this victory, South Korea moved to three points, sharing the top spot in Group A with Mexico, while the Czech Republic and South Africa remain without points after the opening round. The second round will feature a crucial match between Mexico and South Korea for the group lead, while the Czech Republic and South Africa will be looking to bounce back from their opening defeats when they meet in a match where further slip-ups are unacceptable.
