Brussels, Belgium – The European Union has demanded that TikTok make changes to its design and content display mechanisms, a move reflecting increasing regulatory pressure on major technology companies. This comes amid growing concerns about the platform’s algorithms’ influence on user behavior, particularly among teenagers and young adults.

According to European reports, the demands focus on modifying design elements that may encourage excessive use, or what is known as “infinite scrolling.” Additionally, the demands include strengthening digital safety tools and increasing transparency in how content is recommended to users.

This move falls under the EU’s Digital, Power and Security Act (DPSA). The law aims to impose stricter rules on major platforms to protect privacy and combat disinformation and harmful content. It also grants regulators greater powers to monitor the performance of tech companies.

In response, TikTok affirms its commitment to cooperating with European authorities and improving its safety and moderation tools. It also indicates that it is working on developing new features that will give users more control over their digital experience.

Analysts believe that the European pressure could set a global precedent, prompting social media platforms to rethink their fundamental designs. Therefore, this may change the shape of the user experience in the future and redraw the relationship between technology and government regulation in the digital age.
