Washington, DC – The US Department of Justice announced the seizure of over $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas. This coincided with the closure of several of the group’s fundraising and recruitment platforms and websites. The Department explained that Hamas, through its infrastructure, controlled digital addresses on behalf of its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Seizing the Brigades’ main domain (al-Qassam.ps) enabled the FBI to precisely track the flow of donations. According to court documents, investigators utilized intelligence and human sources to identify and freeze these funds. These operations were carried out throughout 2025.
The FBI’s Albuquerque office, in conjunction with its human resources division, conducted extensive operations that resulted in the seizure of servers and domains. In addition, information was obtained on thousands of individuals who had contacted the group online to provide financial support through cryptocurrency or traditional methods. This data will be used in future counterterrorism efforts.
In an official statement, Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg said that these operations deprive Hamas of resources to fund attacks and online recruitment. For her part, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Ferris Pirro delivered a firm message asserting that the movement’s networks are insecure and its funding sources are vulnerable. Brett Lederman, Deputy Director of the FBI’s Cyber Crimes Division, added that the movement has relied on cryptocurrencies to circumvent the formal financial system. Meanwhile, Senior Agent Justin Grace confirmed that the primary objective of the operation is to cut off the organization’s funding sources and undermine trust between it and its international donors.
