The official statement from the Pakistani army confirmed the killing of seven terrorists belonging to the so-called “Khawarij separatist movement” (the banned Pakistani Taliban). This was during clashes in the area.

The Pakistani military stated that security forces conducted a thorough search operation in Hangu on Friday. This followed confirmed intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorist elements planning attacks. The statement noted that the terrorists sought refuge inside a mosque in a desperate attempt to escape. They disregarded the sanctity of the place of worship. However, the forces successfully engaged them and neutralized seven of them.
The army also mourned the loss of Captain Hamza Akram, 27, a resident of Narowal district in Punjab. They praised his bravery, stating he “led his troops from the front and relentlessly pursued terrorists.” The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. These individuals had previously been involved in attacks against security forces and innocent civilians. Clearance operations are ongoing to ensure the complete security of the area.

Intensifying counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In a related development, the Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the killing of 10 more terrorists in two separate clashes in the region. In South Waziristan, security forces thwarted an attack on checkpoints in Azam Warsak. They killed eight terrorists. Two others were neutralized in the Dir area.
In Bannu district, security forces, in a precise intelligence operation in the Jani Khel area, eliminated the prominent terrorist commander Jamidullah. Jamidullah was an expert in drones and involved in a series of terrorist attacks. This escalation comes as the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies warned that July 2026 saw a sharp rise in violence. This made it the deadliest month of the year, with a death toll of 205, including 112 security personnel.
