Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty received today Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, in a meeting where both sides affirmed the depth of the Egyptian-American strategic partnership. They also expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and emphasized ongoing coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Egypt’s perspective on the crises in Sudan and Libya
Minister Abdel-Aty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to support Sudan’s stability and preserve its sovereignty and national institutions. He stressed the need to reach a sustainable ceasefire and intensify the humanitarian response. He also affirmed support for a comprehensive, Sudanese-owned political process. Regarding the Libyan file, Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt’s firm position in support of Libya’s unity and stability. He emphasized the necessity of holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible through a Libyan-led settlement. He also expressed Egypt’s support for UN, international, and US efforts to achieve a sustainable political settlement.
Horn of Africa security and water security
The meeting addressed developments in the Horn of Africa, with the Minister emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional stability as a direct component of Egyptian national security. He also stressed Egypt’s support for the sovereignty of its countries and its rejection of any actions that undermine regional stability. Regarding water security, Abdel-Aty affirmed the necessity of adhering to the rules of international law governing transboundary water resources. He reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of unilateral actions in the Eastern Nile Basin, considering water security an existential issue that brooks no compromise.
American appreciation of the Egyptian role
For his part, Mosaad Boulos praised Egypt’s pivotal role as a cornerstone of security and stability in the region. He also emphasized the importance of continuing close coordination with Cairo on various regional issues to serve common interests and enhance regional security.
