Beirut, Lebanon – Southern Lebanon witnessed a new military escalation on Wednesday. Local media reported that the Israeli army launched a series of intense airstrikes targeting various areas. This comes amid ongoing security tensions that have gripped the border region for several days.
Raids in Nabatieh and targeting of the southern coast
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes targeting the Nabatieh al-Fawqa area deep in southern Lebanon, causing panic among local residents. In a related development, the attacks were not limited to warplanes. An Israeli drone also launched a separate attack targeting the village of Ansariya on Lebanon’s southern coast. This represents an expansion of military operations to include coastal areas that had previously been spared from the recent attacks.
The Israeli army’s position and the ambiguity surrounding the operations
For its part, The Times of Israel, in its coverage of the event, noted that the Israeli army maintained complete silence. No official statement or comment had been issued regarding these attacks as of the time of this report. This is a practice the Israeli military has frequently followed in many of its cross-border operations.
Context of ongoing tension and human losses
These developments on the ground come at a time when southern Lebanon is witnessing an escalating wave of Israeli airstrikes and drone operations. The pace of these operations has noticeably increased in recent days.
These incidents are an extension of a series of deadly attacks. On Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing the Lebanese National News Agency, that Israeli drone attacks targeted three vehicles in southern Lebanon. These attacks resulted in the deaths of at least four people and injuries to others.
