Amman, Jordan – Host countries of Palestinian refugees reaffirmed their full commitment to the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing the importance of the agency continuing its humanitarian and service-oriented work for millions of Palestinian refugees in its various areas of operation.

This stance was expressed during joint meetings and consultations addressing the situation of Palestinian refugees and the challenges facing the UN agency. Participating countries emphasized that UNRWA represents a fundamental pillar in the system of humanitarian, educational, and health support for Palestinian refugees.

The participants affirmed that the mandate granted to UNRWA by the UN General Assembly remains a pivotal element in addressing the Palestinian refugee issue until a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question is reached, in accordance with relevant international resolutions.

The host countries also expressed their concern about the financial challenges facing the Agency in recent years, noting that the continuation of education, healthcare, and social relief services depends heavily on the provision of sustainable financial support and ensuring the continued operation of UNRWA institutions.

They stressed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities towards Palestinian refugees and to work towards providing the necessary resources to the Agency to ensure that essential services provided to millions of beneficiaries in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and the Palestinian territories are not affected.

Observers believe that the renewed emphasis on support for UNRWA comes amid escalating humanitarian and economic challenges facing Palestinian refugees, making the agency’s continued operation crucial for maintaining humanitarian and social stability within its areas of operation.

It is expected that host countries will continue their diplomatic efforts in the coming period to garner international support for the UN agency and to underscore the importance of preserving its mandate and humanitarian role as an essential component of international efforts to support Palestinian refugees and meet their basic needs.
